Janie Goldstein is an instructor at 91影视 where her focus is on family business and small business courses. She has been the Special Advisor on Family Business, initially reporting to the Dean, and now the Family Business Institute, which she co-founded along with Dr. Francesco Barbera, the Institute鈥檚 Academic Director. Together they revamped the undergraduate family business course, now the focus of an ongoing pedagogy study. She has judged the University of Vermont鈥檚 Global Family Enterprise Case Competition and assisted in coaching the 2023 and 2024 Ted Rogers School teams, both of which reached the podium.
Janie鈥檚 teaching has received various accolades. In 2026, she was awarded the Ted Rogers School of Management Learning and Teaching Award for her innovative teaching of the small business course. She is recognized in 91影视鈥檚 Inspired Teaching digital showcase, and she has presented at the 2021, 2023, and 2026 91影视 Teaching and Learning Conferences. She has been interviewed on family business issues by outlets including the Globe and Mail and Canadian Family Offices.
Janie has devoted significant time to non-profit Boards. For her various philanthropic and community efforts, she has received awards including a Canada 150 Exemplary Canadian Award (2017), Harvard Business School Alumna 鈥淢aking a Difference鈥� (2017) and an Eglinton-Lawrence Volunteer Service Award (2019).
Janie co-founded and serves on the board for the Upside Foundation of Canada which was acquired by SickKids Foundation. She holds an Electrical Engineering degree from McGill and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
